Peyz's 6 Pentakills Are Not Enough to Cover T1's Weaknesses

But when PENTAKILL flashed across the screen alongside five takedown icons, I did not see a convincing victory; I saw a team barely hanging on by a thread. T1 won the series 3-2, but their opponent was BFX, a mid-tier LCK team. The biggest question is not how brilliant Peyz was, but why T1 needed a Pentakill in game 5 to beat a team far inferior in reputation. This is not an ordinary match. It mirrors the entire strategy T1 is pursuing: funnel all resources into young AD carry Peyz, turning him into the sole spearhead capable of piercing the enemy defense. When that strategy works smoothly, Peyz shines brilliantly, and fans can dream of big trophies. But when the strategy is choked, T1 becomes a machine without oil, struggling every minute. Peyz joined T1 about eight months ago, bringing a reputation as one of Korea's most promising young AD carries. He replaced Gumayusi, a laner known for lane dominance, to create a new direction centered on teamfighting and late-game execution. On paper, this is a rational move in a meta that favors ADCs in large skirmishes. But reality is never that simple. T1 frequently falls into a state of being forced to funnel resources to Peyz, even when they do not intend to. The result is that every T1 match becomes a life-or-death equation built around a single variable. Peyz's six career Pentakills are an incredible number, the most in LCK history and three times Faker's total in over thirteen years. But if we look closely at how T1 operates, this number reflects a worrying reality: T1 often relies on Peyz to single-handedly turn the game around. Pentakills usually happen in mid-game teamfights where the AD carry is protected and has cleanup potential. It shows Peyz's world-class positioning and finishing ability, but it also exposes the team's excessive dependence on him. One Pentakill is a glorious moment for an individual, but six Pentakills can be a sign of a system losing balance. People often compare Peyz to Faker to prove the young player's talent. I find that comparison unfair and one-dimensional. AD carry and mid lane are fundamentally different roles: ADCs have sustained damage and are usually peeled for in fights, while mid laners like Faker often have to engage first or absorb pressure. Peyz having more Pentakills does not automatically mean he is better than Faker. It simply reflects the difference in role and how the team uses their position. T1 cannot suddenly change their philosophy because if they stop funneling Peyz, the team's entire damage output collapses. This is a trap: they know they are too dependent, but they are afraid to change because they might lose what they already have. Having followed many T1 matches over the years, I realize that Peyz's Pentakill record could be a statistical illusion. When a team funnels all resources, prioritizes fights around objectives, and designs a playstyle around one AD carry, the chance for that player to achieve Pentakills is naturally much higher. That does not deny Peyz's talent, but it explains why six Pentakills have not translated into corresponding team success. T1 has yet to win a major title since Peyz arrived. They only have moments of individual brilliance while strong teams like HLE and Gen.G steadily progress. So what should T1 do? First, they need to diversify their win conditions. Peyz should be a weapon, not the only weapon. Faker should be given more authority in games where the bottom lane is pressured, and Doran needs better support to avoid collapsing. Second, T1 must learn to close out games earlier instead of always dragging to the late game. They cannot keep living on individual moments. Finally, the coaching staff needs a long-term vision, building a flexible system that can adapt to multiple playstyles. Pentakills are memorable, but titles create legends. T1 has one of the brightest young talents in LCK, but if they do not fix their tactical holes, they will continue to waste that potential. HLE and Gen.G have already read this weakness, and they will never give T1 a chance to flip the script.
